Our Story

I am born and raised in the Bedford Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn, New York to Barbadian parents. The village that raised me were mostly Barbadian or Barbadian influenced, but we didn’t discriminate in my village. As long as you had 1 drop of Caribbean blood and you had my best interests at heart, you were my people. My younger brother and I looked forward to our biennial pilgrimage to Barbados. The beautiful people, the sun, the sand, the clear blue water and the palm trees always enveloped me when I arrived. But it was the smells from the kitchens that we visited of family and friends that always played a part in our vacation. It was like Christmas in August with the bountiful feasts that were prepared for us.

Those memories are what made Eleven Island Enterprises LLC come to fruition. I always visited the annual Barbados Day in NYC every July to be fully immersed in my culture. My visits led me to have stalls at the same event years later. I would always help my friends and relatives find hard to obtain products from “back home.” Soon I became their “go to” person for such items.

But it was the Covid-19 pandemic that really pushed me to become NYS official. The pandemic made it difficult for my elderly and shut-in friends and relatives to get out. I would obtain hard to source food and toiletry items to PPE and Barbadian products for them and their friends. It also included finding products for family and friends in Barbados from schoolbooks and necessary PPE.

The need to help others and to promote Barbados and Barbadian products was a win-win for me. Thus, Eleven Island Enterprises LLC officially entered this world May 2020. Onward and Upward!!
